“I was a commercial illustrator and designer/animator here in Brisbane, Australia for years, and basically quit the whole thing last Christmas. I did over 20 plus years from all sorts of industry roles – animation, movies, publishing, advertising – the usual suspects. I have been needing some inspiration for a long time. I need to re-define the direction I want to take and I’ve aligned very strongly with what your course says about finding a core virtue, which I’ve always sought, but couldn’t apply to commercial work.”

“The workshop was more introspective than I anticipated but I found that to be very useful. Beginning at the most basic level of who I see myself has helped to define not only what my niche markets can be but also the type of work I should be creating. I only wish I had taken this class sooner. These tips and techniques are beneficial regardless of career level or how much some of us had already accomplished.”

“Wow. Thank you. You have finally put it all in perspective. I understand how to make my unique voice heard. And even more importantly you have dug down and brought out my core. I see the power and goodness of where my heart is telling me to go. I see honesty and courage coming together to make something better than what society is comfortable with. I see that there are going to be people who don’t understand, but for others I know they have been waiting for this- just like me. I can finally stop waiting and dive into a new blue sea.

(After losing both of my years-long representation at a couple small galleries due to the owner’s retirement, my art sales were barely a trickle, my confidence was somewhere beneath the Cretaceous layer, and I was in serious bad shape.) Greg Spalenka’s “Artist as Brand” workshop came at a great time for me. I’ve been a designer and illustrator for 30 years, picking up a lot of varied kinds of work that I’ve loved doing, from book illustration to art direction, creative direction, to video, plus the constant of music performance and writing. A fun list, but pulling in many directions. The workshop was very helpful in bringing me back to focusing my output on painting with new energy and heart.
The work I do is telling stories without words, creating visual images. When I look back at the output and learning of the last several months since the workshop, I see many pieces I’ve made that I value, many pieces I’m sure wouldn’t be there without having taken the “Artist as Brand” workshop. I’m very grateful to Greg for the experience

You’d think that having that much info crammed into my head in such a short period of time would be exhausting, but instead I feel re-energized. I’ve been so focused on trying to find an art job that I’d almost forgotten what it was like to paint something that I felt passionate about. “The workshop energized me and propelled me forward. I have more focus and positive energy now than I had in the last 7 years!
I can’t express to you how excited I was to find out that this workshop wasn’t a course on how to make a living being a graphic designer/artist for someone else. The whole class was about empowerment of the individual and their artistic purpose. There was a focus on the integrity of an artist’s vision, which has been lacking in almost all of the jobs I’ve taken on the last few years. It’s incredible how damaging years of that can be…it didn’t even occur to me that I HAD a core purpose, until this class.”
